It felt like it wasn't happening and I didn't want it to happen. Talking to the funeral directors, choosing the casket, deciding on the date, time and logistics were all functions that weren't aimed at me being allowed to grieve. I didn't want to go through this process. It still feels like my anchor has been ripped away. And then the guilt that hit at the end of the day when Dad's youngest brother phoned and wanted to speak to him. He hadn't been keeping up with the group updates that we'd been sending out. The silence on the phone was gut wrenching. Then he thought that he wasn't allowed to come as it was family only. We were quick to point out that he IS family. Just not sure how he's going to get up here as it's a 5 hour drive and he has Parkinson's. We left him to call Dad's only other living brother who lives in the South Island. We know they got the message. They may not be able to get up here quickly as flights could be difficult to organise. We shall wait and see.
