I ordered a proof copy of my novella and paid a few dollars extra to expedite it. It's still taking 10+ days to get here. Is this expected behaviour, or should I complain?

It took KDP nearly two weeks to ship me a proof copy. 😑

@Kimberly Kradel No, I didn't want to pay extra. 😁
Purchasing Extra Fonts
So far, I've managed to stick with one font (and typical variations thereof) for both the written copy and the cover of my book. My cover is simply one stretched color photo (300 dpi) with an overlay consisting of the title, tag line, and my name as author, but I'm wondering if anybody else is using more than one font throughout the process, and if so, how many?

Your cover font should match your genre but the interior should be something simple. Google fonts has a lot of open source fonts that you can use, but be very careful if you go to one of the free font websites because most of those are not for commercial use. I've bought several font bundles from Creative Market so I have a huge variety but 90% of them I never use. Also if you have an Adobe subscription, they have fonts for commercial use.

@Cynthia Farr Kinkel What genre? I honestly can't think of a genre that would use Garamond on the cover. Interior, absolutely, but cover? Probably not.
Autocrit
For anyone interested, I emailed autocrit about their pricing as I didn’t see a lifetime price. The response from Sean came today: The $399 price is an older Lifetime Membership price. If you're interested, our Lifetime Membership is available here for $499: AutoCrit Pro Lifetime Membership

Wait until Black Friday. I'm pretty sure that's when I got it a few years ago.
Anyone else using Github for version control of your story?
Hi, as a software developer and recently turned armature writer, i have found some really useful crossovers. For example, GitHub. I push all my my text to github, and it allows me to save version of it over time, which are available to me if i ever want to go back and see how much changed, or if I want to grab a paragraph that was accidentally deleted/removed, it is easily accessed. Also, you can save to private repos online which means if you lose a physical hard drive, the work is not lost, you simply pull request the entire novel back you your work environment. and it's free. ;) Just wondering how many other are doing this?

I just rely on Word's ability to roll back. I've never had to go back more than one or two versions, so it's worked well enough.
Cover, Blurb, or Marketing: Which One Should You Fix First?
Something I’ve come to realize as an author is that not every problem needs a bigger marketing push. Sometimes, it needs a better foundation. Your cover represents your first impression. Your blurb gives readers a reason to care. Your marketing helps people discover your work. But none of them have to be perfect. Sometimes we spend so much time worrying about sales that we forget to step back and ask: Is there something I can improve before I try to reach more people? A stronger cover can build confidence. A clearer blurb can communicate your story better. A more focused marketing approach can help you reach the right audience. And the good news is, you can learn all of these things. Publishing a book is already a huge achievement. Everything after that is simply another opportunity to grow, learn, and get better. Don’t be discouraged by what isn’t working yet. Use it as information. What’s one area of your author journey you’re currently working to improve?

@Stephen Marte Don't feel guilty. The trad publishers are using AI for all sorts of business decisions and marketing copy. Indies can't afford a Madison Avenue advertising campaign, so don't hamstring yourself trying to pass some purity test that only other authors and booktokkers care about. Those people aren't buying your books. Real readers only care if the marketing copy grabs their interest and sounds like something they want to read.

@Stephen Schneider @Deborah McLaughlin The problem comes in when your beta readers like it, your ARC readers like it, but then you start getting 2 star ratings with no reviews to help understand what they didn't like. 🤷‍♀️
