Lost my motivation
Greetings all. To be transparent about my situation, I use to love writing poems, short stories and creating wonderful characters I could build a story around, but life got in the way for a while and I believe I lost my motivation to write. When I was younger, ideas would come to me so easy. I would flip open a notebook and have pages upon pages of content. Now, being married with four kids, I open a notebook, all I can think about nowadays is appointments, homework, and shopping lists. It's making me feel like I am not a writer anymore. But, I truly want my first love back. Writing was my first love. Any tips for a lost cause here?

@Ciera Starks It really sucks to lose motivation... Every single time it happens 😕 🐦‍🔥 The good thing is that you can always get it back For the sound of it, I think you lost motivation because daily is life so busy that there is less headspace to be inspired when the situation required from you to be rather operative 🦾 IMHO, motivation is something you catch, but rather than you getting it, it gets to you ↔️ 🎣 Its a lot like fishing, I guess... What the fish does is outside of your control but you still have agency. You can decide where in the lake or sea you are, you can chose the bait, the time of day, etc Likewise, if you nurture the environment where motivation grows, it will, eventually, undoubtedly, sprout 🌱 🤗 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦You have a husband and four kids that's already 5 great starting points, what stories or poems would they need to or want to read? 🕯️ 🫵 You can also write to 'the idea of writing itself', to your lost love. 💌 Write it that one love letter to your dwindling love for writing that makes you want to remember the good ol' days when writing was center and spotlight 🧭 Tell it what makes it fell like a lost cause. Summon it back. It will come. It still lives within you ❤️‍🔥 I can read it already between the lines of your message here 💯 😶‍🌫️ I'm personally, not so aware of all the contextual or relevant details in your life 🫥 🍃 So, I'm sorry if my words fall a bit short at this moment, still, we are here to support each other 🫂 That's what makes the big difference between a community and just a course. 🤷‍♂️ Perhaps it's also good to point out that even if right now you don't have motivation, 💪 you still have shown us the value of being self reflective, the decisiveness to want to do something about it, and the courage to put yourself out there and ask for new perspective or help 🧩 You are already have lots of pieces to the puzzle
It's Story time! Let's Create Together! 👍
Now, @Matthias Heinrich brought up the genre Object Romance and now I keep thinking of a shovel with a painted face... Strange. So, I thought it would be nice to share this strange yet creative way to make a story! I will start off writing a sentence. Then, the next person adds a sentence. And so on! Be sure to copy and paste the sentences prior! Let's see how interesting this can get! (Please keep it PG-13 rated) ❤️ Genre: Object Romance 🔥 My heart fluttered to life once I saw it! Now you! 😁

The signs were all there, it was like solving a mystery, one just needed to follow the crumbles. Little Elsie was right after all...

Tell me about books that made you change your mind? I wanna hear about those books that flipped your opinion about a topic.. perhaps they presented an very compelling argumentation or offered a particular approach that resonated with you in a way that shifted what you thought about the subject

I was writing one scene that is set around a very thick and difficult subject regarding life (and death). I was wondering what are your thoughts and experiences and tricks when it comes to writing about these?
World Building…?
So there’s a lot of discussion about how our world came to be, lol. Whether you believe in the bang or creationism… one thing is for sure: This planet is AMAZING! For thousands of years we’ve discovered new things as humans. And every year something new is uncovered. Whether it’s a fossil in a dessert or a planet in space… we can’t seem to scratch the surface of the vast beauty in this universe. That begs the question (for us authors-especially fantasy writers)… when you are world building: when do you stop?! 😱 I love world building… but sometimes it can be so excessive to the point that I use world building as an excuse to NOT write the actual book. What’s YOUR experience??? Do you not build enough? Too much? What’s too much? What’s too little? Share your thoughts 🙌🏼

This made me think about the LOTR prologue that has four chapters! I remember asking myself why do I need to know that hobbits need to swim before, what about the ring?
