Pesky flies .....
So, diffuser time to send summer flies packing. I laughed when I saw my bottle of citronella in the back of my kitchen draw. @Jane Lawson popped straight in my head... "its in the poisons book!" 😆 But being a rebel i decided a couple of citronella (famous and common fly repellent), couple of lavender.... let's get rid of the fly situation. How wrong was I! 😆😆😆 No change with flies, and in fact, I had one sit on the top of my diffuser - taunting me 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣 so not only is citronella a poison, its blooming useless! Out came Buddha Wood, Cedar Wood and Spearmint ... its now definitely helping! 👏😆 Hit me with your fly blends that work! 🪰

😂I can't help but laugh at the Citronella, it doesn't work on midges etc., either! For midges, my go-to is Bogg Myrtle every time. But then, for some reason, I never get bothered by them. I'll use it for other people who seem to attract them. As for flies..... bain of my life if they get indoors. So, for many, many years now, I will harvest my Lavender flowers on their stems and hang them at open windows or doors, or save the flowerheads and pop them in a bowl by my doors or windows. yes, the odd one does still get in, but on the whole they don't. Once I have my kit laid out again, I'm going to dowse for a fly repellent and see what comes up.

RBK Aromatherapy LLC (Robin B. Kessler, CA) gives monthly lecture webinars for free on Webex. These webinars are by professionals in the aromatherapy and herbalism industry. RBK Aromatherapy LLC is not affiliated with any organization, but because these are educational lectures, you may request a certificate of completion for 2 CEUs. The next one is July 29 at 4PM EST (NYTimes) with Venessa Phipps You need to fill out this form and tell me you want to attend Venessa's webinar https://www.rbkaromatherapy.com/contact.html It will be on "The Art of Translation: When Aromatherapy Meets Formulation" Presentation Description Aromatherapy and formulation share a common foundation, yet each speaks its own language. In this presentation, Venessa shares her journey from clinical aromatherapist to soap and cosmetic formulator, and how the Blend3 Method became the catalyst for developing a systematic approach to translating aromatherapy principles into handcrafted products. Through stories and practical examples, she explores how blending evolves when essential oils move from the bottle into soaps, body butters, salves, and lotions while preserving the artistry and intention of aromatherapy. Speaker Bio Venessa is a certified clinical aromatherapist, educator, certified soap maker & teacher, and cosmetic formulator who specializes in bridging aromatherapy with handcrafted product formulation. After beginning her career in aromatherapy, she expanded into soap making and cosmetic formulation, where she developed practical methods for translating aromatherapy principles into reproducible, high-quality products. Through teaching, writing, and speaking, she helps makers confidently apply essential oils in handcrafted products while honoring both the art of blending and the discipline of formulation. Venessa teaches throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, is a contributing columnist for Making Soap, Cosmetics & Candles Magazine, hosts the DeGanya Aromatics YouTube channel, and is the author of the forthcoming book, Zero Waste Whipped Soap Making.

Your Go-to Fixed Oil
If you could only choose 2 and I do mean TWO fixed oils as your go to mediums, what are they and WHY have you chosen them? You CANNOT choose Jojoba (as thats an easy choice), nor can you choose an oil blend such as Trauma (Arnica, Calendula, St.Johns Wort combo) oil.
