What kind of creator are you?
I think I see that there are VERY specific beginner personalities when people start painting. Which one do you align most with TODAY? I’ve been EVERY SINGLE ONE of these at some point 😂

In truth, the mismatch in my head is probably the disparity between my author business, which in some places has had time to grow for 11 years, and my brain is wanting to fast forward my art business to that point. Yet there are some "mistakes" I have corrected on the art business side, or at least I feel like they are done better. It's such a weird feeling, but I think that is why I keep sprinting instead of settling down. I keep seeing that it isn't in the same place as the author stuff. It might never be since it's a different animal in many respects.

The images in my head have always been much more mature than what I can create whether by writing or by art. I was talking more about business concepts and being impatient. It takes time to get information out there (for free) and to build all of the infrastructure involved in a business.

I don't know about any of you, but I usually think of other people's photos when I think of reference photos. But I realized something. In my Dropbox, I have years worth of photos I took of places I've been, things I have enjoyed, and I don't mind giving myself artistic permission to draw or paint what I took photos of. I know that there might be some things to be careful of, like a floral arrangement or anything someone else did artistically that I took a photo of. Still I've spent the last few hours downloading several images to my phone that I can use later this month. I had to share, since I was truly surprised by what I found lurking in my photo archive. I don't grow flowers. I would think it weird if someone gave me flowers. However, our family visited the botanical gardens so I have fun photos of flowers and butterflies. Watercolor flower paintings might just happen this month. Plus a fun fog on the lake picture begging me to paint it.

@Michelle Cyr Sorry. It was grumpy monday's coming through on tone there. I do need to watch your videos. I do have a few questions to ask you related to oils, but I wonder if you want them in a specific area or not. For future participants in your community.

@Michelle Cyr Then again maybe I should watch the videos first. 😅
How does Mother’s Day feel for you?
Happy Mother’s Day Warning: deep coffee thoughts here: I invite you to share about someone….. Your Mom. Your Grandmother. Your Child(ren) Someone who helped shape the beautiful you that you are today. I want the REAL little things. The human feels. Maybe messy, maybe neat. Who was that person? Do you feel gratitude or something else? Have your feelings changed over the years? How? Is this person still here? Do you feel strongly about a specific scene in your togetherness? The way she held her cigarette. Or twirled her hair. THESE are things that make meaningful paintings. 💔❤️💔❤️💔❤️💔❤️💔❤️💔❤️💔❤️ Here is my Mom…. an absolute gem. She left this life about 6 years ago. Her phone number is still in my Favorites list (even though I know that number now belongs to someone else). She was a beautiful soul and my memories are so delightful, it’s an honor to share them. I don’t have any children of my own so this day has just become a day that I think about her longer and harder and more intimately. The first pic is Mom and me. I finally convinced her to ride on the motorcycle with me even though she HATED motorcycles. Second pic is when we went fishing but she wouldn’t touch the fish that she caught so I had to render assistance every time she got one on the hook. If you blow up the pic, you can see the itty bitty fish she caught. The last one is the last pic I have of her - one week before she suddenly passed from a heart attack. We slept in the same bed together while I was visiting. I know this might be weird but it was such an intimate moment with my Mom that I am grateful to have as my final memory.

I don't think I would be into art if it weren't for my mom. Harder than I can say to even post this much, honestly. She did a color-by-number cameo for quilts like this. Her mom and her liked to quilt together. I slept under this quilt growing up (in the photo). Lately, I've been thinking that although it was paint-by-number, she used blending, so maybe she still left some of herself in there. She died at the age of 67 due to a heart attack, but there were mental health problems that probably caused some lifestyle choices that led to that. 14 years ago, but I don't like to keep track of it too much. A lot of pain there. I try to remember the good stuff. When I was young, there was this day we played kickball (the four of us) in our backyard. Not sure exactly how that worked, but it's a fuzzy memory filled with happiness. She was super smart book-wise. She was valedictorian of her high school. That is about all I can handle for now. At her funeral, my brother and I and one other person showed up (maybe 3 not sure). Mental health issues can really take a toll on people's lives.
An Option to Opt-in
So there is this thing about emails. The law says I can’t add the email that you gave me already to my email list unless you specifically opt in. When you sign up here in skool, you are NOT opting in to my email list for my professional paintings. You are only opting in for Skool associated emails. I take this rule very seriously. No one needs email that they don’t want. So, IF you are interested in getting email about my professional paintings, exhibits and IRL classes, you can go here. Michellecyr.com If you hang out for a little bit, you will see a pop-up to opt in. There is zero pressure from me at all. This is only if it interests you. I am getting ready to send a newsletter about my IRL classes in Wisconsin for the summer and it made me think that it might interest you. Cheers!

@Michelle Cyr With the right people it's great. With the wrong people, unfortunately...

@Michelle Cyr True. Very true. It's about who we are. I just like to add caution.
Some watercolors I did lately.
The 8.5x11 are me following a book. She drew it and I paint in between the lines. She also tells me rough percentage of color mixtures to get the colors right. The rest is free hand afterwards.

@Michelle Cyr Thank you. I am gifted in the sense that part of me sometimes flows into my art (but only when the piece has meaning). The problem with "gifts" or intuition is that I literally don't know how I do it so I can't teach it. I asked a friend about how she always seems to add light into her art, but she doesn't know either. There is something in your piece with the hands holding the purple heart, but that could be a connection due to who I am. I don't know enough about you or your art yet to say for sure. I once noticed it with a drawing of a pet I did for relatives / in-laws. I really felt like I saw "her" (pennie was her name if I remember correctly)in the drawing.

@Michelle Cyr It's kind of a tangent thought. Sometimes people applaud being gifted, but being gifted only gets you so far. Earning something through learning means you don't have a blind spot. Even though it's a small "gift", it feels like a loaded weapon that I don't know how to handle properly. I don't want anyone here to get the wrong idea about me.

I love the creative process as a fiction writer and visual artist, but my day job is spent solving complex computer problems by creating software.
