Garden Fails ๐Ÿ˜ž
We all pride ourselves on the things we can grow and things have changed over time. As a group we have gone through a few trial and errors. Let's help each other. What are the things that you will NEVER do again in your garden because it didnt work?

SUCCESS DRESSED UP AS FAILURE: Iโ€™m so proud that Iโ€™ve done everything right and produced a bumper crop, but EVERY insect, and fruit & vegetable-eating freeloader nibbles on everything before me ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿฆ— ๐Ÿ€ ๐ŸŒ
If you could only grow 1 thing.....
In the past I used to grow things like eggplant, squash, and others that my family just didn't like to eat so a few years back I decided to only grow things that we would actually eat. Funny thing is that those things we like don't grow year round and some of them don't grow in our climate at all. Even with these challenges I still try to grow these. Rhubarb and mango are some of those that I am still working on. If you could only grow 1 thing what would that be?

@Tabitha Sitton same here! Yet I drive around my neighbourhood to see healthy trees sagging to the ground, laden with fruit. Itโ€™s not a climate issue - itโ€™s a ME problem ๐Ÿ˜†

Take all the time you need. Just like a well-fed and maintained garden, this community will thrive while you rest during a rough season.
Worm Check 1...2...1...2
Hereโ€™s a fun way to see if you have healthy soil fun ๐ŸŽˆ 1. Remove the mulch, sticks, rocks, and fluffly stuff to expose the surface of your soil. 2. grab a big handful of dirt. 3. Then count how many worms you have in your hand. More than 2 = extremely healthy soil 1 = your soil is good 0 = your soil might need some help. Try it today and drop your worm count below ๐Ÿ›

@Dennis Wichter On average, two large ones (10-15 cm long) and a couple smaller ones

@Dennis Wichter Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s any one thing; probably a combination of factors. When the veges come to the end of their time, we let them go to flower (attract bees), harvest any seeds we want to keep, then mulch the old plant and leaves into the soil. We water regularly and deeply. Apply sugarcane mulch to ensure moisture retention. We always blend mushroom compost into our garden beds between crops. Theyโ€™re the main things I think that might contribute. Even today, I was clearing away grass from my fence line and there were hundreds of worms and castings. I used to have chickens near this space for about 15 years, and Iโ€™m wondering if their manure has laid the foundations for it. I have pretty good quality sandy loam here anyway, plus itโ€™s protected from direct sun, and receives plenty of moisture. These are the conditions. Iโ€™m only guessing they all contribute to a beautiful thriving little underground ecosystem.
