Hungry for Lean Knowledge
OLD DAWGS! I’ve been in contact with the legends @Adam Hoots and @Mike Chiles recently and they had a great idea: crowd source knowledge from the old dawgs. What I’m looking for specifically are book recs for lean methods or leadership as well. I want to be like a sponge with this stuff. To this point I really only have LinkedIn learning courses under my belt so I’m really trying to expand my horizon and do more than just dip my toes in the water. Send me all the recs you have, thank you in advance!! -Nick Scozzaro

Love it, @Nick Scozzaro and thanks for being HUNGRY to make our industry better. We discussed "The Lean Builder" and "Old Dawg Lean Thesaurus" being great starters on learning important Lean terms and processes. Also mentioned for leadership tidbits, Mack Story's books being good starts for quick-hit info. "Blue-Collar Leadership" and "Blue-Collar Kaizen" are ones I've enjoyed. But other Old Dawgs, help out the pack! What are some tips and tricks you have for humble and hungry Nick as he works to streamline and improve the custom homes market?
The happy secret to better work
Kicking off the year with a reminder I need just as much as anyone else. I revisited Shawn Achor’s TED Talk, The Happy Secret to Better Work, and it hit home. We’re taught: work harder → hit the goal → then be happy. The research says it works the other way around. Some of the biggest gains come from small, consistent habits: - 3 gratitude's - Journaling - Exercise - Meditation - Random acts of kindness Nothing flashy. Nothing complicated. Just small changes that ripple outward. How can we implement even one of these on a jobsite? - 3 gratitude's - ask everyone to privately note 3 things or think about 3 things they are thankful for. - Random acts of kindness - ask everyone to send a positive email to someone.. Have an atta-a-boy time each day or week to recognize others hard work. Why is this type of behavior acceptable in sports but not on our projects? What suggestions do you have and thoughts? https://youtu.be/fLJsdqxnZb0?si=jkIMMIX0smm8aP9q
