Do-over w/new wheels
March 8, 2026 do-over of Feb. 25. Backwards alternating crossovers concentrating on complete weight transfer - two tries. The wheels are great, thanks again Jay. The bearings... whoever cleaned and oiled these things is trying to kill me. Wait, that was me.

@Paula Pride I tried, thanks. I hope your training is going much better than mine.

@Aleeta Powe , @Marisa Sa I'm finding more places to skate: this weekend I drove by some local industrial buildings that do a lot of semi truck shipping. They have large concrete expanses leading to their shipping doors that if they don't operate on the weekend, in this case was free of any truck/trailers. Mmmm, smooth concrete (picture Homer Simpson drooling).
Penny for your thoughts
I'm currently taking a skate instructor course. May I ask you 3 questions? <If "yes" proceed to next step> πŸ‘‡πŸ» 1. What frustrates you most about skating? 2. What skill do you wish you had? 3. What would make you feel more confident?

@Aleeta Powe You know what, I'm the same, I compare myself to others, especially good skaters who look like they started and kept skating from when they were kids... so smooth, tricky and cool. I guess that's one reason I don't frequent the rink... they're there, and I spend a lot of time just watching them - time I should spend practicing, lol.

@Paula Pride Yes, you're so insightful with those two expressions: comparison is the thief of joy, and To me it feels like flying - because I relate to both of them completely.
Do your wheels make a difference when you’re practicing different techniques?
I spent the past few days celebrating my birthday so I was MIA from the group. But is it crazy that I be legit dreaming of skating? I hopped back on today for about 30 minutes. But I think I nailed down my front to back transition on one side. Still working on the other. All of you guys’ advice helps. But I’m curious because I changed out my skates and practiced on the 85As and it seems like I was able to get the open book down using both the toe manual and the heel manual. In your experience, does alternating between different wheels seem to help you any, especially when you’re struggling to perfect a move? Do you find that going to a harder or softer wheel seems to make a difference?

When I started skating again last year I was on 78A I think - big 'ol soft wheels. I liked that they gripped - I felt more stable, so what you say rings true for me too. When we get to a point where we need a little sideways slippage, the other wheels come in more handy. You make perfect sense, Jay, and happy birthday again!

@B Solo That's beautiful!
Slow it down? Yeah!
I just had an idea: to use something like the speed control on youtube to slow down a song in order to practice the choreo. I'm not into choreography on skates yet. Back in "the day" (in dancing) we didn't have digital playback that could change frequency (BPM) without weirding out the pitch. I found an app for Mac called PitchNSpeed. Simple and free. I just tried it and voila. I'll probably use it when I get to skate-dancing. Let me know if this is news to anyone and a good idea.

@Aleeta Powe this works online with any device https://app.musicspeedchanger.com/ I just tried it. It's intuitive, very simple and works great, and it's free.

@Eden Perez Gosh, thank you! In all honesty I hate seeing me skate, πŸ₯΄, so we balance out. I hope you show us how you're doing sometime.
Oopsie
Fell backwards yesterday and automatically stuck my arm out and broke my wrist. It happened so fast. Any tips on fighting that instinct? I'm really frustrated. Also, I'll be wearing my safety gear from here on out.

The same from me, I'm sad for you. People have warned me that wrist-breaking was a thing that happens to skaters. You're already talking about avoiding it again so you're obviously planning to keep skating - I'm impressed. Yes, don't give up; you're a real skater. Recover quickly.
