@Jennifer Mcfarlane I’m so proud of you and Maizie 👏👏👏. Now I’m sitting on the bench saying ‘One Day Mr Arch will enter level 2’. I’m not sure when that day will be 🤷‍♀️ as Archie has a hit and miss personality but as Matt mentioned, he is making progress (with his Crate downstay. So I am cheering Archie to pass level 1 😃

@Jennifer Mcfarlane yes fingers crossed for that “one day” 😂. But yes I am enjoying the process and spending 1:1 time with my boy. Even though he tests my patience all the time but I guess that’s what I love about him. The strong headed dog 🥰
What a Jack Russell Needs!
Jack Russell Terriers were bred to hunt foxes and other small game, working independently above and below ground. They are energetic, fearless and highly driven. A Jack Russell isn't just a dog that needs exercise—they need a job that satisfies their hunting instincts. What a Jack Russell Needs to Feel Fulfilled 👃 Scent Work *(Highest Priority)* * Scent detection * Find It games * Food trails * Tracking * Hidden toy searches 🐁 Hunting & Chase * Flirt pole * Structured tug * Retrieve games * Chase-and-capture exercises * Search boxes 🧠 Problem Solving * Puzzle feeders * Shaping exercises * Trick training * Food enrichment * Interactive toys 🕳️ Digging Outlets * Sandpit digging area * Buried toys * Buried food searches * Dig boxes 🤝 Working With Their Handler * Engagement games * Loose leash walking * Recall games * Obedience * Target training 🌿 Exploration * Sniff walks * Bush walks * Confidence obstacles * Different terrains * Environmental exploration Things to Avoid ❌ Endless ball throwing that creates obsession. ❌ Expecting them to be fulfilled by walking alone. ❌ Punishing natural hunting instincts instead of redirecting them into appropriate outlets. ❌ Long periods without mental stimulation. Great Genetic Outlets * Scent Detection * Tracking * Flirt Pole * Structured Tug * Find It Games * Search Boxes * Digging Pit * Puzzle Feeders * Trick Training * Confidence Courses * Food Trails * Recall Games A fulfilled Jack Russell isn't simply a tired dog—it's a dog whose nose, hunting drive and problem-solving instincts have been given an appropriate outlet. When you provide structured scent work, controlled chase games, digging opportunities and purposeful training, you'll have a calmer, more focused dog that's less likely to invent its own entertainment through barking, digging, chasing or destructive behaviour. This is exactly why Jack Russells excel in activities like scent detection, earth dog work and structured hunting games, they're doing what they were bred to do.

LIVE TODAY, 1PM: Loose Lead Walking
If your dog drags you down the street, be there. I'm doing a full walk-through with Polly. Not a talk, an actual demo. Camera's going up in the carpark and you'll see the whole thing, including the reps she gets wrong. What we're covering: - The three real reasons your dog pulls (none of them are that she's stubborn) - Follow Me: the engagement work that has to happen before the lead does anything - What to do the second the lead goes tight, and why stopping dead is the wrong answer - Stop and sit at kerbs using pressure and release - Your homework for the week - 30 minutes. Bring your questions, I'll stay on at the end to answer them. See you at 1.

Hi @Nath Morrison , Archie will NOT do a down stay for the trainers or I. Can I safely say that he is being stubborn? Or is it something else? Is it my engagement with him? No matter what I try he will not do a down stay anymore.

Love dogs and everything they bring to my life. Archie, Jayme and Bella is who I report to Daily. Loving dogs is not a hobby, it’s who I am 🐾
