Exercise 1: Learning to Identify Distributions & Retracements in an Uptrend
๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ”ฅ Exercise Objective: Learning to Identify Distributions & Retracements in an Uptrend ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ“ˆ
The purpose of this exercise is to train your eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ to recognize what a retracement looks like inside an uptrend and what a distribution looks like within that same trend.
As you already know, an uptrend is simply the general direction of price moving higher over time โฌ†๏ธ๐Ÿ“Š
In ProRealTime, this often appears as a sequence of predominantly green candlesticks ๐ŸŸข๐ŸŸข๐ŸŸข pushing upward.
Inside that upward movement:
๐Ÿš€ Distribution = The larger, stronger expansion in price moving WITH the trend (upward).
๐Ÿ”ป Retracement = The temporary pullback AGAINST the trend, often appearing as a smaller sequence of red candles moving downward ๐Ÿ”ด๐Ÿ”ด
What I need you to begin noticing is this:
โš ๏ธ Markets rarely move in a perfectly straight line.
Instead, they tend to move rhythmicallyโ€ฆ
๐Ÿ“ˆ Long Distribution
๐Ÿ“‰ Shorter Retracement
๐Ÿ“ˆ Long Distribution
๐Ÿ“‰ Shorter Retracement
๐Ÿ“ˆ Long Distribution
๐Ÿ“‰ Shorter Retracement
โ€ฆrepeat endlessly ๐Ÿ”
Over time, you should begin observing that in healthy uptrends:
โœ… Distributions tend to be larger in size
โœ… Distributions often contain more momentum
โœ… Retracements tend to be smaller in range
โœ… Retracements temporarily pull back before continuation
The larger move advances the trend.
The smaller move pauses the trend.
Then price often continues.
This behavior repeats over and over and over again ๐Ÿ”„
Youโ€™ll see it on:
โฑ๏ธ 15 Second Charts
๐Ÿ• 1 Minute Charts
๐Ÿ•” 5 Minute Charts
๐Ÿ•’ Hourly Charts
๐Ÿ“… Daily Charts
๐ŸŒŽ Almost every market
The market is fractal ๐Ÿงฉ
Meaning:
The same behaviors appear repeatedly across different timeframes.
The goal of this exercise is NOT prediction โŒ๐Ÿ”ฎ
The goal is:
๐Ÿ‘€ Pattern Recognition
๐Ÿง  Building familiarity
๐Ÿ“š Developing market intuition
๐ŸŽฏ Training your brain to see rhythm, structure, and probability instead of random candles
Train your eyes long enoughโ€ฆ
โ€ฆand eventually youโ€™ll stop seeing:
๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Random Candles
Youโ€™ll start seeing:
๐Ÿ“Š Structure
๐ŸŽต Rhythm
โš–๏ธ Probability
๐Ÿงฉ Context
๐ŸšฆMomentum
๐Ÿ‘‡ Assignment (Required)
Post Loom Video/Screenshot in the comments showing:
1๏ธโƒฃ One example of a Distribution ๐Ÿ“ˆ
2๏ธโƒฃ The Retracement that followed ๐Ÿ“‰
3๏ธโƒฃ A short explanation of why the retracement was smaller in degree than the distribution before it โœ๏ธ
โญ Bonus Question:
โ“After doing this exercise, do you believe the market moves more randomlyโ€ฆ or more rhythmically than you previously thought?
Drop your answer below ๐Ÿ‘‡
