3 Mistakes That Kill Your Agent Before It Ships
Built a lot of agents. Broken even more. Here are the top 3 killers:
❌ Mistake 1: No Error Handling
One API timeout and your whole agent crashes. APIs fail. Networks timeout. Your agent needs to handle it gracefully. Return errors as tool results — let the LLM decide what to do next.
❌ Mistake 2: No Guardrails
Agent goes rogue, makes 200 API calls, burns through $50 in tokens in 3 minutes. Set max iterations on your agent loop. Validate tool calls before executing. Use least-privilege permissions.
❌ Mistake 3: No Testing
"Works on my machine" until it doesn't. Build an eval suite: give your agent 20 tasks, grade the results, track pass rates. Regressions are real.
