Do you hear the silent cry?
How can I partner? She was sitting on the pavement outside a corner store. Her long amber hair was tangled and oily. Her face was marked with scars. Next to her, a small container of beauty products—something she was trying to sell just to make it through the day. I rolled down my window. “Hi,” I said gently. She looked up—silent, searching. I asked, “When was the last time you ate?” “I don’t know,” she whispered. She asked for a Big Red—her body craving sugar as it detoxed. I grabbed her some food, and before I handed it to her, I said, “Jesus has a plan for your life. If you’re tired, we have women’s homes throughout Victory Outreach. You don’t have to stay here.” “I’m 27,” she said softly. “I’ve been out here for 3 weeks. My mom is really sick, and I don’t know how to take care of her. I was in rehab and really liked it… but it got to be too much. But I haven’t gotten high in a few days.” I asked if I could pray with her. She nodded. As I prayed, a single tear ran down her cheek. “That’s the Holy Spirit,” I told her. “God loves you. You still have a choice. A future. A name. You can walk away from this life—Jesus will walk with you.” She paused, then quietly said, “I’m not ready… but I’ll think about it.” Before I left, I invited her to Code Red. She asked, “What’s that?” Victory Outreach Code Red is a two-day outreach where we go into the darkest places and remind women of their God-given worth. We offer hair and makeup, a warm meal, and most of all—hope, love, and the transforming power of Jesus. I told her, “You’d be my special guest. You’ll be treated like royalty—because that’s how God sees you.” She smiled. “Yes… I want to go.” This is why we do Code Red. Because women like her are not throwaways. Because Jesus still meets people on the streets. Because knowing Jesus can change everything. But we can’t do it alone. We’re asking you—our community—to partner with us. Partner with Victory Outreach ThirdWave San Antonio to help the forgotten women of our city.
