One student:"In this state, I can foresee events, diagnose illnesses, and even heal others—yet it happens entirely unintentionally and passively. Should I regard this as an ability to be cultivated, so that I may enter and exit this state at will, consciously and freely?"
Dr.Pang said:
When you reach a state of immobility during practice and feel your consciousness about to leave your body, do not let it depart.
Instead, focus your intent (yi) on anchoring yourself—observe your body from the inside out, then from the outside in. This merges shen(spirit) with xing(form), unifying them completely, and thereby strengthens your abilities.
Moreover, if this state of "leaving" occurs frequently, and after your abilities intensify, it would traditionally be classified as "releasing the yin spirit"(出阴神). However, if your physical body remains underdeveloped, this practice offers no real benefit.
Therefore, do not seek the freedom to enter and exit at will. Even the idea of "free passage" is just a mental construct—it represents a stage of practice overly focused on consciousness alone.
