Trolls and Haters...
Was thinking about Trolls and Haters, as they are everywhere. You'll start to see them as you grow.
They are on Substack as well. Don't be afraid to use the Mute and Block features.
As you grow, you are going to get people who want to be rude to you, mean and hateful, argumentative, and all manner of in-between ridiculous behavior.
That's different than general feedback or debate. I'm talking about something different here. I'm talking about rude people who really are just wanting to pick a fight with you, make you look bad, etc. Often they have an agenda that has very little to do with you.
Whether that be using your name to grab a few views, or sparking a drama that gets them attention. Or maybe it's just they are having a bad day and decided to take it out on you. Regardless, it's a massive waste of time dealing with them. You cannot win. You'll only grow their cause by engaging with them.
Now, don't get me wrong...there are ways to turn it around, and USE them to sell your products. I've seen it done before, but that's only for certain people really. Takes a pretty tough skin to deal with the haters like that.
I say, don't let them ruin your day. Just mute them or block them and move on.
I looked up the difference between the MUTE and BLOCK buttons BTW:
Substack MUTE: The Substack "mute" feature allows users to hide content from specific publications or individual users, as well as mute certain Chat threads. You can mute publications in the Chat section by tapping the publication and selecting "Mute" to choose a duration, or mute users from your home feed by clicking the three-dot menu on their notes or profile and selecting "Mute". Muting a user prevents their notes from appearing in your feed and hides their activity, but they can still interact with you, unlike blocking.
Substack BLOCK: Blocking on Substack prevents a user from viewing your notes and profile, subscribing to your publication, and interacting with your content, such as mentioning you in comments. However, other users can still see the blocked person's replies, and the blocked person can still see your content if they are logged out or find a direct URL.
What's the difference?
You can “mute” or “block” users to stop seeing their notes and activity. Mute prevents you from seeing them on your Home feed and block also prevents them from seeing/interacting with you.
Yes, if you mute someone on Substack, they can still comment on your posts. Muting only prevents you from seeing their content (notes and replies) in your own feed and notifications.
This can be good for engagement purposes. You actually can use them to your benefit but don't have to deal with them. The unfortunate side of that is other people have to deal with the things they say about you. So it's a pros and cons situation. Let them slander you and not see it, or just block them.
Often they will go away though, once you stop engaging with them.
Just food for thought.
