Writer's Circle: Waning Moon Wisdom for Revision
This week, as the Waning Moon invites introspection and reflection, Writer's Circle attendees were invited to complete a revision exercise. This is a chance for all of us to bring illumination and clarity to our work. Revision Exercise for Deeper Clarity - - Think of an aspect of your book or chapter that fits one of these: - A paragraph or section you're unsure or hesitant about. - A revelation your book or chapter is meant to bring to light. - A character or scene that is pivotal to your overall story. Choose one of these areas. Now, imagine shining a spotlight on it at center stage. Take some time to reflect, and then rewrite that chosen piece. Your goal is to make it even more clear, more important, and truly stand out for the reader. Many of us are more comfortable behind-the-scenes but putting ourselves out there as authors requires that we step forward and shine a light on our message. Let's use this reflective energy to illuminate our words! @Leslie Barber @Dee Mehta @Michelle Hicks @Brittney Dunnigan @Stace Frick @CarolBritton

If your book was a TED talk...
I was inspired by @Carolina Cifuentes this week and her big share about her talk, and I wondered if I would be ready to talk to a general audience about my book topic. It got me thinking... what if I am invited to give a 10-20 minute ted-type talk about my book. What will I talk about? Then today I was in a workshop for academics and the speaker mentioned the importance of rest (mentioned it for 2 min). Instantly I thought... if @Sierra Melcher gave a ted talk today, REST is definitely an entire topic she owns. So I turn this into a prompt for us... if you are invited to give a ted-like talk TOMORROW about your book/issue you're thinking about - what will you talk about for 10-20 minutes with ease and clarity? Right now, since I am finishing my dissertation, I realized I can easily talk about book research or how wall street owns our cities and why this matters.
She Helped Everyone But Herself
Elena loved books. Not just reading them but breathing life into them. She wasn’t a bestselling author, but she was the reason many existed. As a quiet force behind dozens of indie successes, she poured her heart into helping authors get seen. She promoted their work like it was her own. She stayed up at night fixing launch plans, emailing bloggers, scheduling interviews always pushing others into the spotlight. But there was one thing Elena never did. She never asked for help. She had a story too. A novel she never finished. It sat in drafts, waiting… but she was too busy promoting everyone else to publish her own. Years passed. The authors she helped went on to fame. Some forgot her name. Elena burned out. Her business failed. Her story was never told. Until one day, a dusty file was found on her laptop. Echoes in the Margins. A haunting novel about a woman who gave everything to lift others and vanished in the process. It went viral. But Elena never saw it. She died before it was published.
