“Wine Math” for Travel🍷
How Many Bottles Can You Bring Home? 🧳🍇
Ever fall in love with a bottle on vacation and wonder, “Can I bring this back with me?”
Whether you’re flying home from Napa, Tuscany, or just road-tripping from a local winery, here’s your no-stress guide to bringing wine back like a seasoned sipper.
✈️ Flying with Wine
✅ Checked Luggage Only – TSA doesn’t allow liquids over 3.4 oz in carry-ons, so wine goes in your checked bag.
🍾 How Many Bottles?
For U.S. domestic flights:
No legal limit, but over 5 liters (~6.5 bottles of 750ml) may trigger a tax.
For international: U.S. customs allows 1 liter duty-free.
You can bring more—you just might owe a small tax.
✨ Pro Tip:
Pack bottles in clothes or use padded wine sleeves.
Don’t risk that favorite vintage breaking mid-flight!
🚗 Road Trip Rules
If you're driving across state lines, you're usually fine.
But check local laws—some states have restrictions on transporting large amounts of alcohol (especially for resale).
✨ Road Trip Hack:
Bring a cooler if you’re picking up wine in hot weather.
Nothing kills a great bottle like being baked in a trunk for 4 hours.
🎁 Shipping It Home
Many wineries offer direct shipping to your address.
It’s convenient—but not all states allow alcohol deliveries.
✅ Before you buy, ask: “Can you legally ship to my state?”
Your Turn!
