Human Authenticity vs Generative AI
Many are observing the flood of generative AI and concluding the internet is losing its authenticity and relevance. I see it differently.
This isn't the death of the internet. This is the Great Re-evaluation.
For three decades, the internet's economy was built on content. We valued access to information, articles, and media. But now, generative AI has made high-quality content infinitely abundant. It is the new commodity, and like any commodity, its value is in freefall.
When content is everywhere, what becomes scarce? Trust.
We are rapidly exiting the Content Economy and entering the Trust Economy.
The internet's relevance is no longer about "what" is being said, but "who" is saying it. The line between human and AI-generated work isn't just blurring; it's forcing us to ask new questions. We're moving from:
* Content to Source.
* Information to Verification.
* Creative "authenticity" to Provable "human-ness".
The new premium isn't a polished video or a perfect article. The new premium is the provable human experience: the un-replicable personal story, the genuine (and fallible) expert opinion, the verifiable identity. The "AI ick" we feel isn't just a rejection of the synthetic; it's an instinctive search for the human signal in the noise.
The challenge ahead isn't just building better AI detectors. It's building new platforms for human verification. The creators and brands who win the next decade won't be the best generators of content; they will be the most trusted and verifiable sources of it.
Authenticity is no longer a "vibe." It's becoming the most valuable asset in the digital world.
