Morning Gratitude: Reflect on the COMPLETE 3R Method this week. What's one moment where you used all three R's together?
The Complete 3R Method (Real-World Example)
Let's walk through the COMPLETE method with a real scenario:
SCENARIO: Your child is frustrated with homework and starts to melt down.
❌ OLD RESPONSE: Jump in immediately, explain the problem, solve it for them, or get frustrated yourself.
✅ 3R METHOD:
R1: REGULATE (Yourself)
  • Notice: Your chest tightens, you want to fix it
  • Breathe: Three deep breaths, drop shoulders
  • Ground: "Their frustration is not my emergency"
R2: RELEASE (The Rescue)
  • Wait: Count to 30 while staying present
  • Say: "You can't solve it YET. What's your first step?"
  • Walk away: "I'll be in the kitchen if you need me."
R3: RESPOND (With Leadership)
  • If they keep struggling: "Your brain is learning right now. This is what growth feels like."
  • If they figure it out: "I saw you try multiple strategies! Your brain worked hard!"
  • If they push back: "I've already answered. You can do this."
Total time: 60-90 seconds. Total impact: Lifelong resilience.
