We talk a lot about accountability, routines, and weekly writing goals… but one of the best things you can do for yourself is prepare before the week begins.
A little Sunday reset can make your week feel less overwhelming and help you show up for your creativity with more clarity and intention ✨
Here are my top 5 tips for preparing for a new week as a writer 👇
✍️ 1. Decide What “Success” Looks Like This Week
Not every week has to be wildly productive.
Maybe success this week is:
- writing 500 words
- editing one chapter
- showing up for one sprint
- resting without guilt
Define success before the week starts.
📅 2. Look at Your Schedule Realistically
Before setting writing goals, check your actual capacity.
Ask yourself:
👉 What days am I busiest?
👉 When do I realistically have energy to write?
Build your writing life around your real life—not an idealized version of it.
☕ 3. Prep Your Writing Space
Small things help more than we think.
- charge your laptop
- refill your notebook
- tidy your desk
- prep playlists/snacks/drinks
- open the document you’ll be working on
Make it easier to begin.
🧠 4. Do a Brain Dump
If your mind feels cluttered, your creativity usually does too.
Spend 5–10 minutes writing down:
- tasks
- ideas
- worries
- reminders
- scenes you want to write
You don’t have to carry everything in your head.
🌱 5. Start Small
You do not need to “catch up” on your dreams overnight.
A sustainable writing life is built through:
- small steps
- consistency
- grace
- showing up imperfectly
Tiny progress is still progress 💛
