My favorite Einstein quote is, "A clever person solves a problem; a wise person avoids it in the first place." This reflects the samurai approach of preemptive problem-solving, which I find very effective. Communication is crucial for business success, as poor communication can cost companies millions. Our second prime directive emphasizes using clear, precise language to ensure optimal understanding and action by the recipient. It's the sender's responsibility to provide all necessary information to avoid follow-up questions, including the who, what, when, where, why, and how.
In line with our third prime directive, we use the best tools for communication. For instance, we use WhatsApp for its multimodal capabilities instead of email, which is ineffective for internal communications. When sharing detailed information, it's better to send a link to a document rather than cramming it into a WhatsApp message. Prompt responses are also vital, ideally within a four-hour window, to provide forward guidance and help recipients make timely decisions.
Enhancing communication skills is essential for business success and reducing friction in interactions with partners and team members. It's one of the few areas entirely within your control, and by improving in this area, you can significantly increase your efficiency and effectiveness in business operations.
