Last Mother's Day, my children wrote me letters.
Beautiful. Emotional. Heart-full.
But they didn't write "Happy Mother's Day, Mom."
They wrote: "Happy Mother's Day, Val."
I was taken back.
Then they told me: "We're celebrating the woman that is our mother."
And it stopped me.
When was the last time I celebrated being a mom?
Not doing motherhood.
Not ensuring all is smooth.
Not taking care of everyone else.
But celebrating the woman underneath the title.
The one who chose this role.
Who gives her best and all.
Who wakes up and does it again.
We spend so much time DOING.
We forget to honor the BEING.
So today I celebrate the woman who is a mother.
Not the title. The choice.
Not the duty. The gift.
