Intro + Question
Hey everyone!
This is Mannan from India
I’ve been in the digital marketing field for the past 3 years. I’ve built my affiliate side hustle and already made four figures from it. Right now, I’m also working as a VA with a coach and gaining hands-on experience.
Recently, I decided to start getting clients on Upwork. I’ve already created my account and completed around 80% of my profile. While researching how to get clients, I came across this amazing community—and I’m really grateful to be here 🙌
Now, I have a question and would love your advice:
How many connects does it realistically take to land your first client on Upwork?
Let me make it more specific—I’m planning to offer Social Media Management and Virtual Assistant services. I already have 3 years of experience and my own results that I can show. My only concern is that my Upwork profile is new.
So I'm thinking to ask with my current client I'm working with to leave me a review, so I have at least one testimonial on Upwork. ( Is it a good startegy?)
Here’s my current plan:
  • Buy at least 300 connects
  • Send 3 high-quality proposals per day (Assume to spent around 15 connects each proposal)
  • Apply only to jobs that I truly feel aligned with
  • Write custom, personal proposals that highlight my skills and experience
  • And I will apply for 300$-$500 Jobs (so Not HT)
I believe in quality over quantity, but I also want to be consistent.
What do you think—Is this a solid plan to get my first client?
Should I buy 300 connects to start with, or would you recommend starting with More or less?
Would love your honest thoughts, tips, or anything I should consider. 🙏Thanks in advance!
