Outside, here in the Netherlands, the fireworks have been going for hours.
Loud. Bright. Constant.
There’s beauty in it — and also too much.
So inside, we kept it small.
Candles lit.
Tea in hand.
The kids busy in the living room, the soft glow of the tree lights — puzzles out, paper stars taking shape.
In Dutch, it’s goede jaarwisseling — a good change of year.
Not a demand for happiness.
Just a turning.
That feels right.
