Which side do you stand on? Japan’s escalator rule explained 🇯🇵⬅️➡️
In Japan, people usually stand on one side of the escalator to let others pass on the other.
But here's the interesting part:
- In Tokyo (Eastern Japan) ➝ stand on the left
- In Osaka (Western Japan) ➝ stand on the right
It may seem like a small thing, but locals follow it very seriously!
It helps keep foot traffic smooth, especially during rush hours 🚶♂️💨
🗡️ Fun fact:
Some say Japan’s left-side preference comes from the time of samurai.
They wore swords on their left side, so walking on the left helped avoid bumping into others!
