McDonald's in Japan: Mac vs. Makudo!?
In Japan, McDonald's has two nicknames depending on where you are:
🍔 Kansai (Osaka area): Makudo
🍔 Kanto (Tokyo area): Mac
💬 This can cause funny misunderstandings!
😅 A Common Mistake:
👭 A (from Kansai) and B (from Kanto) are friends meeting up...
“Let’s meet in front of Mac!”
🗣️ A:「OK〜!」
“Okay!”
⏳【その後 / Later...】
🗣️ B:「今どこ?」
“Where are you now?”
“I’m in front of Mac!”
“Me too! Really?”
“Yeah, in front of the makeup store MAC!”
“No! I meant McDonald’s!!”
🗣️ A:「あー!
“Ahh! You meant Makudo! Sorry, I’m coming now!”
🧠 Try asking your Japanese friends:
「マック?それともマクド?」
You might find out where they’re from!
