Carbohydrates get a bad reputation sometimes, but if you're training hard, they serve an incredibly important purpose.
Your body breaks carbohydrates down into glucose, which can be used for energy or stored in your muscles and liver as glycogen. When you're pushing through a hard training session, especially higher-intensity work, muscle glycogen is one of the major fuel sources helping you perform.
And after training?
Those carbohydrate stores need to be replenished.
That's one reason I program carbohydrates strategically throughout both my own nutrition and my clients' meal plans.
One of my absolute favorites is cream of rice, specifically Bowl O' Gainz from The Flavor Gang.
Cream of rice is primarily carbohydrate while being naturally low in fat and relatively low in fiber. Because it's made from finely milled rice, it's generally easy and quick to digest, which makes it an awesome option around training.
I especially love using it:
🔥 At breakfast — an easy way to get carbohydrates in and start fueling the day.
💪 Pre-workout — quick-digesting carbohydrates without a huge, heavy meal sitting in your stomach.
⚡ Post-workout — pair it with protein to help replenish the glycogen you burned through training and support recovery.
But the best part is how ridiculously versatile it is.
You can make traditional cream of rice with a whey protein drizzle...
Turn it into pancakes...
Make waffles...
Load it with fruit...
Or turn the damn thing into a BROWNIE.
Eating for your goals doesn't have to mean eating boring food every single day.
That's exactly why I love The Flavor Gang. They have a ton of different Bowl O' Gainz flavors, so I can change the flavor and recipe while still keeping the carbohydrate source predictable and easy to program. Their current lineup includes flavors like Brownie Batter, Lemon Pound Cake, Cream Pie, Crackberry, Peanut Butter Cookie, American Pie and more.
If you're local to Eagle County, you can grab it directly from me.
