Editing Tip Tuesday ✂️: Remove ‘On-the-Nose’ Dialogue
If a character says exactly what they mean, it can feel stagey. Real people hint, dodge, soften, or explode 😅
🔸Before: ‘I’m angry because you never listen to me.’
🔸After: ‘Right—sure. Because you’re so good at listening.’
✳️Try it: Take one line of dialogue and rewrite it with subtext (same meaning, less direct).
Drop one line below if you want help polishing it.
