This is Enayatullah EBADI from Afghanistan and I want to apply to a foreign university which is a bit competitive. And the essay below is my essay, I know that it’s too messy and generic, so please help me in this regard.
Essay:
I thought the hardest part would be the SAT, but it turned out to be everything outside the exam.
Five months ago, I had to travel alone to Pakistan to take the SAT because there were no test centers in Afghanistan. I had never left my country before. Shortly after I crossed the border, I lost all contact with my family due to government restrictions during a period of conflict. For the first time, I was completely on my own, without any way to ask for help or even hear my family’s voice.
At the same time, I had only one opportunity to take the SAT, as visa restrictions made it unlikely that I could return. I needed to manage everything myself, including my living expenses. I asked a Pakistani friend I had met in the dormitory, who was also preparing for the SAT, to help me find work. Through him, I was hired in a factory where I used my basic database and computer skills. Balancing six hours of work with daily SAT preparation was exhausting, but it forced me to become disciplined and independent.
Simple tasks were also challenging. I did not speak Urdu, and my first attempts to communicate were frustrating. At first, I expected others to understand me, but I realized that I was the outsider. I began learning basic Urdu and gradually adapted by using it in daily interactions. Over time, I built friendships and became more comfortable in the environment.
This experience changed how I approach challenges. Instead of waiting for circumstances to improve, I take responsibility for adapting and finding solutions. It also strengthened my interest in computer science, as I gained practical experience working with data and systems. More importantly, I learned that even when everything becomes uncertain and there is no one to rely on, I can still depend on myself to move forward and handle what comes next.
This is my essay and this is its prompt:
What is the most significant challenge you have faced and how did you overcome this challenge? "Max 300 word"
