Here is a summary of the areas we discussed in our initial conversation. More to come. An outlined PDF is attached.
1. Saying yes to Godly character. What is this?
a. Doing (and thinking) what is right when no one is looking. (because God always is)
b. Integrity at a higher standard than the world has or expects.
c. Being a faithful, genuine example of godly character to our children, wives, friends, and co-workers.
d. Parenting techniques change, but character never does. We must be consistent in basic godly character.
2. Saying yes to Sound doctrine.
a. Scripture is the only source; we must be students of God's Word.
3. Saying yes to Spiritual courage.
a. Not just Christlike thinking but godly behavior.
b. How to have a strong testimony without words.
c. Have the courage to be different without being obnoxious.
d. Spiritual courage starts with unconditional care, compassion, listening, serving, and helping.
4. Saying no to unbiblical cultural trends.
a. What do we watch for?
b. Be intentional about talking with kids about trends starting when they are young.
c. Where is the error in conventional wisdom and trends that are a strong pull?
d. Be open to talk about everything and anything.
e. How do we identify and combat peer pressure?
5. Saying no to shallow ideas of leadership.
a. Godly work ethic, unyielding honesty, and rock-solid integrity.
b. The importance of understanding your wife better. deeper.
c. Know and guard her weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Know and emphasize her strengths!
Here is a list of qualities fit for a true man of God. Don’t worry, it’s easier than you think to master this list, but we all have work to do in many of these areas. This effort is not only an act of obedience to Christ, but it makes us much better men, leaders, husbands, fathers, and workers. I am working on grouping these into five manageable groups, with one trait helping another. Stay tuned!
