✨ Thrift Spotlight: Vintage Mesh Purses (Oroton, Glomesh & more!)
Found this beautiful Oroton gold mesh coin purse the other day for $6 and had to share
✨Mesh accessories have been around for decades, and many countries have their own iconic brands.
Here’s a fun bit of history I learned:
💡 Oroton
  • Began in the 1930s
  • Known for high-quality metal mesh bags
  • Hugely popular in Australia & New Zealand through the 70s–90s
  • Stylish, shiny, and super trendy at the time
💡 Glomesh
  • Started in 1958 in Sydney
  • Also famous for metal mesh purses, clutches, and wallets
  • Their mesh pieces were everywhere in the 60s–80s
  • Often mixed up with similar brands worldwide
And of course, other countries had their own mesh legends like Whiting & Davis (USA), which dates back to the 1800s and is still collected today.
Mesh designs were a big deal globally — elegant, durable, and instantly eye-catching.
Have you ever thrifted a mesh bag where you live?
Or do you remember these from your country?
If you have one (any brand!), feel free to share a pic — an Oroton Wallet was the thing to have in the 80's here in New Zealand ...I remember really wanting one ...how about you? ✨
