Reading into the group's exposition, eye see it peaked a few years ago, and is currently experimentally being revived. What I have here may be germane.
Let's see... how to distill this...? In late 1970s Key West, then known affectionately as "the Last Resort," because it was one of the remaining American redoubts of the 1960s Rainbow-New Age-Aquarian thing, I was a key constituent of a group (all of whom had to be there to make it what it was) that originated on September 5th, 1978 in an unlikely, serendipitous, synchronistic and spontaneous event eye had foreseen, without any idea of what it was about, or who the people there were, in a visionary acid trip, back in 1969, that altered the entire trajectory of my life!
As an aside, eye don't see this as evidence of determinism. A quantum perspective appears better suited (Thank ye gods for that breakthrough! Finally Science offers evidence of what people like us have known since time began). In any case there's more going on beneath the surface of our existence than meets the proverbial eye (I'm probably preaching to the choir here). I was recently going over this period with my life/our lives with my partner, who was there, and who saw among others, and will bear witness to the perfectly magical manifestations of our inner experience, along with our intentions. Going through various phases, the church we formed, with its Water of the Service, of which I was Keeper; hence my Rainbow name, lasted for about three years, morphing into the less structured Circle after we moved away to SW Arizona in '81, where I kept the service going. I even got to exchange experience and tradition with a Traditionalist elder Tohono native there. It was marvelous!
After we moved to Oregon, in 1989, I tried very hard to keep it going, but it simply ran out of steam. It seemed a lot of "seekers," such as they are, tend to be spiritually lazy, and expect Teachers to carry their weight, or to do it for them. If I wanted to be like a minister, I could have gone to a seminary, you know? It was like it did its thing for a few moments, as if designed to demonstrate my personal body of work as a journeyman magician, and when when I knew mastery was achieved, it was through the portal of another unlikely event that asked for - or tested more about wisdom than knowledge, if I'm saying this right. I can tell quite a story, with all of its signals, mileposts, lessons and synchronistic manifestations, which is the certain, I could say "conscious" seal of the "real thing." In the Sea of Grace Church we called it "the Active Symbol & Sign."
Classic churches have tried forever to keep the "spirit" alive, with varying success. Maybe their continuity, along with the assemblage of the mythic archetypes they display, inspiration and core values surface and are sustained, which helps to maintain whole cultures, with their ethnic and racial traditions, though I tend to see them as elaborate nets to keep and hold people into controlling and, for its princes, enriching spiritual monopolies. The real thing, IMHO, belongs to each and every one of us, and should never be turned over to anyone else to control! Though I again digress.
Anyhoo, to bring this together, It''s about you and me, and works a lot as do the flowering plants as they live through their seasons while flowering and planting their seeds. McKenna was likewise a moment. As with those of us who gravitate to the teachings of Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, Zoroaster, etc, or the mythic gods n' goddesses, which in their day were all mere moments. I think we have to reel it in, tightly, until whatever moments moved us personally becomes central to our being. Patience is required. The patience of a fisherman, or of a farmer.
I've come to see our role as healthy cells in the Living Body. This body is not the state, but All Life In All Things. As such, we will do whatever we do out of our inner directive, in the moment. We will thereby always know exactly what to say, what to do, and how to be.
