There's an old spiritual concept (and 1000s of YT videos) stating that the self is an illusion. Many 'spiritual teachers' talk about dissolving the ego to become one with everything.
But there's a trap in that. It can become spiritual bypassing to avoid the messy reality of being human.
The truth hits when you step off a curb into the path of an oncoming bus...
That flinch, that jolt of terror, that body jumping back to the pavement. That is not an illusion. That is the physical self, wired deep to survive. It is VERY real. And so would the impact be.
We are not one or the other. We are not just spirit pretending to be human, nor just earth bound creatures with no higher purpose.
I have been from one extreme to the other. But ultimately, I found inner peace from honouring both. Respecting my profound spiritual connection with universal consciousness, and equally respecting the biological reality of my earthly animal self.
