The categories through which we understand ourselves are never neutral.
We inherit stories about who belongs, whose knowledge counts and whose experiences are recognised and valued. They carry hierarchies of culture, class, race, language and nation.
We encounter these categories in how we are read, what others expect of us and what we learn to explain, perform, minimise or adapt.
The Identity Gap is the distance between lived experience and the stories, categories and expectations available to recognise it.
Drawing on social theory, the Circle explores how these patterns are produced, how we adapt to them and how they shape identity.
Stories → Systems → Recognition → Identity → Authorship
For people whose lives are more complex than the categories used to define them.
Recognise the patterns. Question inherited stories. Choose what you carry forward. Find language for your complexity. Tell your story without reducing yourself to fit.
The aim is not a better performance. It is self-authorship.
