Loop Assignment 1 - One Groove Looping (Timing & Layering)
Hey Loopers
This is a little assignment for you to start thinking about HOW you start looping the 'groove' of a song.
This isn't a full song, this is an exercise.
Think of the following:
Setup: 4-count loop, somewhere between 85–95 BPM - either use a metronome or a built in rhythm on your looper.
Build: Record a one-chord rhythm using muted strums or a repeating riff - think of your favourite beat or riff that you feel MOST comfortable playing. get the rhythm going with this or record the riff.
Variation: Now.. stop. Delete this riff and change the pattern or rhythm and re-record it with that variation as a new loop. Either change the strumming or picking pattern.
Challenge: Add a percussion layer and keep everything as tight as possible.
Reflect: What version felt most stable? Which version gives you, as an artist space to play over the top?
Let me know how you get on.
