Anyone struggle with RSD… Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria? This is one of my biggest problems as a neurodivergent person. Everything is black or white; there is no gray. When the slightest friction occurs, it is the end of the world for me… I’m not kidding, not being dramatic.
My whole nervous system shuts down and I go into Fight or Flight mode… and for me, it’s usually Flight. I want to run! That has always been my go-to since I was really little. Just run away!
However, I’ve found that no matter how many times I run, my mind goes with me…and reminds me how worthless I am. Reminds me that I am just an imposter here… that I’m no good at… anything.
But it’s the RSD talking… I need to name it, acknowledge it, then tell it to politely move the f*ck on! What neurotypical people can let go rather quickly, can perseverate in my mind for hours, days… sometimes conversations I had years ago, will still surface and I regret how I handled those moments…sometimes much so that it is painful in my stomach, heart, and mind… literally and figuratively.
So… have grace for others… you just never know what battles another may be facing. Pain, sadness, hopelessness, is not always visible on the outside. And those of us with neurodivergent minds are really good at masking it!
