December Journal Prompts — RELEASE
This month we’re diving into what release really means — not just in your muscles, but in your movement and your mindset. These prompts are here to help you notice where you hold on too tightly, where you second-guess yourself, and where letting go might actually help you dance with more ease and freedom.
You don’t have to do all of them at once. Start with the one that stands out to you, and come back to the list anytime you want to check in with yourself again. The more you understand what’s happening inside, the more your dancing on the outside will transform.
RELEASE JOURNAL PROMPTS:
  1. Where in my body do I hold the most tension when I dance, and what might that tension be trying to protect me from?
  2. When I fully release my weight into the floor, what changes in my movement? What changes in my confidence?
  3. What does “trusting my body” mean to me right now, and where do I still hesitate?
  4. Write about a moment in dance when letting go actually made you dance better. What allowed you to release in that moment?
  5. When I over-control my movement, what fear usually sits underneath that? How can I soften that fear?
  6. What would it feel like to let gravity help me instead of fighting it? What would that look like in my dancing this week?
  7. Where in my life outside the studio do I feel “tight” or “held”? How does that show up in my movement?
  8. What is one belief about myself (as a dancer or person) that I’m ready to release because it no longer supports who I’m becoming?
  9. How can I practice releasing just 10% more — physically or mentally — without feeling out of control?
  10. If my movement could talk, what would it ask me to let go of so it can feel more free, grounded, and expressive?
