When The New Idea Wants To Play
I'm back working on my novella after an unwanted break. After I complete the first draft I'm going to start planning out a novel. The other day I had an idea for a short story that I jotted down on an index card and safely stored in my IDEAS box. All was calm. All was quiet. Then, like a speeding train through a wall, my head was invaded by a new idea for a book. But not just ONE book, a whole series of books, with the main character almost fully formed and a hundred ideas for plots. And they're all just sitting there. Smiling. Waiting. Pointing to the IDEAS box, telling me I don't have to work on the novella. Or that other novel. Not right now. This idea... THIS idea is the one that needs all the attention. THIS idea is the road to fame and fortune. THIS idea is THE idea and those index cards aren't going to scribble on themselves. But I shall be strong. I SHALL be strong.
