Saying NO to Being the Office Therapist
When you’re in leadership, you naturally become the emotional catch-all. Everyone brings their problems- personal, professional, or somewhere in between.
But leading over 100 people taught me this: If I let myself be everyone’s therapist, I’d have no time left to actually lead.
So I stopped.
Now, when someone calls, I might let it roll to voicemail- or answer with, “Can I call you back later when I can give you my full attention?”
Nine times out of ten, they either keep it brief or realize it can wait.
It’s not cold. It’s clarity. Because when you love your people too much, they’ll unintentionally take every ounce of your time -and you’ll end up empty.
Boundaries don’t make you less available.
They make you more effective.🫶
