Marginalized Trump Supporters?
I’m spending some time in Florida and trying to stay open and curious when I come across MAGA supporters. I went to a Seafood Festival in New Smyrna Beach yesterday. I challenged myself to spend my money at Black owned booths for food and art. At home, having less Black owned options, I already know those I support are Progressive. I live in a Progressive Blue Spot in Red Pennsylvania.
I am having a much harder time in Florida getting a gauge on if the Black business owners are aware of just how harmful MAGA is and has been. In my experience as a therapist, I am aware of the complexities that contribute to an oppressed person’s relationship with the oppressor/abuser, so I can hold a lot more grace in these situations than I can when privileged people support this administration. I decided that it mattered more that I spent my money supporting Black businesses than if I was supporting a Progressive business or not. Thoughts? I’m so interested in hearing multiple perspectives around this.
