Automations in ChatGPT require paid access. The newest versions of ChatGPT now connect directly to Google Calendar, Gmail, Drive, and Microsoft 365, to work together with ChatGPT to automate workflows, manage meetings, and surface the right data at the right time.
KNOW THE PREREQUISITES - A PAID ACCOUNT IS REQUIRED.
Free ChatGPT accounts cannot connect to outside apps. Connecting apps requires ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise.
Your account must also use a model that supports tools. In the ChatGPT interface, select GPT-4 or GPT-5. You will see small tool icons appear when the model supports integrations.
If you plan to connect work or school accounts such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, your organization’s administrator must allow third-party app access. Without that permission, the connection request will fail.
Make sure you sign in with the same account you use for your calendar, email, or drive files. If you switch accounts during setup, ChatGPT cannot verify your credentials.
OPEN SETTINGS AND ACCESS CONNECTED APPS
In ChatGPT, click your name or profile icon in the bottom left corner. Choose Settings from the menu. In the Settings panel, click Connected Apps.
From here you can see a list of available integrations such as Google, Microsoft, Slack, Zapier, or others. You can connect one or more depending on your subscription tier.
AUTHORIZE THE CONNECTION
When you select Google or Microsoft, ChatGPT will open a secure authentication window. Log in using your regular credentials and review the requested permissions.
Grant access to the items ChatGPT needs, such as calendar events, email metadata, or drive files. You can always revoke these permissions later from your Google or Microsoft account settings.
After authorization, ChatGPT will confirm the successful connection. You will see the green “Connected” indicator next to the app name.
TEST YOUR CONNECTION
Return to the main chat window and start a simple command. Try saying “What meetings are on my calendar today” or “Summarize the unread emails from this morning.”
If ChatGPT responds with live data, your connection works correctly. If it displays an error message, open the Settings menu again and confirm that your account remains connected.
USE CONNECTED APPS EFFECTIVELY
Once connected, ChatGPT can perform practical tasks instantly.
• Review or schedule calendar events.
• Draft and send professional emails.
• Search your drive for documents and summarize their contents.
• Generate reports from spreadsheets.
• Combine insights across multiple platforms into one conversation.
Every action happens inside your secure ChatGPT session. You maintain control at all times.
MANAGE ACCESS AND SECURITY
Check your connections periodically. Remove any apps you no longer use by clicking Disconnect next to the app name.
If you ever suspect unusual activity, sign out of ChatGPT and revoke access directly from your Google or Microsoft security dashboard. Reconnect only after verifying that your credentials remain secure.
Always use two-factor authentication on your primary accounts and avoid connecting from shared or public devices.
KEEP YOUR SYSTEM CURRENT
ChatGPT’s integrations evolve quickly. OpenAI releases new features and connected services regularly. To stay current, check your ChatGPT Updates & FAQ section every few weeks.
Make sure your browser is up to date and clear cached sessions if connections stop responding.
FINAL THOUGHT
Connecting your apps to ChatGPT transforms it from a conversational tool into an intelligent command center. You give it access to real data, and it gives you back time, clarity, and automation.
