Creating an adventure from scratch
As Guild master of the largest adventure guild in Ferialas, I am constantly asked how I put together adventure requests for my adventurers. The answer? I use the 10-point formula below.
- What or who is the protagonist and what is their power level?
- What is the Setting / Terrain / Environment?
- Does the protagonist have minions or accomplices?
- What is the reward / motivation for adventurers to undertake quest?
- Are there special requirements needed to fulfil quest?
- Information Sources and pathways toward end goal
- Rules, length of quest, availability of participants.
- Hooks, hints and side quests for future adventures
- Spreadsheet or notes on non-adventurer characters, abilities and personalities.
- Always have ideas for when the quest goes sideways, as more than likely it will.
