OK podcasters, I want to address a few things—especially for those who are newer. There are some important things you need to understand:
1. This is your show.
At no point should you let anyone rush you, control you, or disrespect your time.
2. Set boundaries—and stick to them.
This is your show. You choose how it’s recorded, how it’s run, and how it flows. Set clear rules and expectations, communicate them up front, and don’t be afraid to pull the plug if those boundaries aren’t respected.
3. You’re going to hear “no” a lot at first—and that’s OK.
It’s not the end of the world. You’ll learn, like I did, that sometimes you have to get turned down a bunch of times before you start hearing “yes.”
4. No-shows and feeling like your time was wasted.
This one hit me hard early on. Cancellations—especially last-minute ones—can be frustrating (I ran a live show, and I’ve had people cancel five minutes before airtime). Over time, I learned that things happen. The world doesn’t end. Sometimes you just have to wait for a response—strange concept for some, but it’s part of the process.
With all that said:
If you’re thinking about starting a podcast, I’m excited for you. You’re about to go on a journey. Take your time. Do it your way. Learn as you go.
Welcome to the podcast family. 🎙️
