Once every 12 months from each of the 3 major credit bureaus
- That’s Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion
- Get them for free at AnnualCreditReport.com
- Tip: Stagger them every 4 months (one report at a time) to monitor year-round
Ideally:
Every few months — especially if:
- You're planning to buy a house or car
- You're applying for a loan or credit card
- You've been a victim of identity theft or fraud
- You’re actively rebuilding your credit Monthly (or More Often):
Use free credit monitoring tools or apps like:
- Credit Karma (TransUnion & Equifax)
- Experian app
- CreditWise by Capital One
These don't show your full report, but they alert you to changes in your credit profile.

- Make sure your credit usage and payments are being reported correctly
