PUCHA (Poo-cha)
“Pucha” is a common Filipino interjection that expresses surprise, frustration, disappointment, or mild anger, and it is often considered a softer, more socially acceptable version of stronger curse words. Filipinos use “pucha” when they want to release emotion without sounding too offensive, especially in public or around elders and children.
It can be said when something unexpected happens, when a mistake is made, or when someone feels stressed or overwhelmed, similar to saying “Oh no,” “Darn,” or “Shoot” in English. Because of its toned-down nature, “pucha” has become widely used in everyday conversation, showing how Filipino language creatively adapts strong emotions into expressions that remain culturally polite and expressive at the same time.
