Youtube - Revive Old Account Or Start New?
The basic question here is whether one should start a new Youtube channel or try and revive an old one?
Question: If you have an account with over 2k Followers and 350k views but that has been malingering for over a decade (so followers may be "dead") and a batch of videos about 18 months ago got under 100 views each (with promotion) - would you start again or try and wake it up?
Background:
I have an old Youtube channel which I have had for years. Some of my early videos (15 years ago maybe) have had tens of thousands (in one case 230k) views. It also has over 2k Subscribers.
This is all good for the ego and looks better than a startup channel BUT I returned to it maybe 18 months ago and posted some stuff and it was getting 50-150 views per video.
Given I was pushing people to this, it clearly was getting NO ORGANIC views at all. It is fair to say my Subscribers could have all moved to Mars by now and even my video with 200k+ views has finally trickled down to nearly nothing.
Research:
There seem to be a lot of articles and videos about people reviving older channels and the positives of doing so but I think many of these people are playing into the fear of people of giving up their Followers.
After watching a video by GinnyFears on Youtube about her IG channel (and various others), there is a school of thought that starting a new channel "on purpose" and growing it in one direction will do better than an old account that has been wallowing around...
... Because Youtube sees it as going somewhere rather than an old dog (as it were).
It might be a little harder for people to click on to Follow as they will be the first but her stats suggested that it might do better.
Current thinking:
I have started my synthesizing journey on Twitter. I had an account with 6500 Followers but again it was dead so I decided to start afresh (3 days, 14 Followers. LoL.). There is actually something quite exciting about that.
I am using this as a kind of stream of thought and will be doing longer form ideas on Youtube.
I am also pushing to Instagram from Twitter (automatically - boy, did that take some setting up!)... and decided to leave my old audience for that too and start again.
I am wondering what to do with Youtube?
Do you think I should start again there too or try and revive?
I am in this for the long haul so keen to do what makes the most sense not which strokes my ego or gives a false sense of progress...
Let the ideas roll!
