The most misunderstood message of self developement
When I tell people about my changes in life, I always notice some level of criticism that are directed to ''suppressing ones emotions''. This is not what self development is. When I tell people I hate going to the gym, and still go 4 days a week if not 5, they tell me this is unhealthy ''suppressing behaviour''. Instead of rolling my eyes at them like I normally would, I've thought about explaining it when asked for.
Suppressing emotions: Ignoring your emotions & not dealing with them
Controlling emotions: Acknowledging/observing emotions & dealing with them then and there or later that day.
Suppressing emotions and controlling emotions are not the same. I'm tired of people telling me how unhealthy my eagerness to self-development is. It's so off putting when someone is suggesting ''you shouldn't work on yourself'' because it will cause long term effects.
I hope negative people haven't bothered you as much. Keep working on yourself!
