Region-beta paradox
During a podcast between Chris Williamson and Joe Rogan, the idea of the ''Region-beta paradox'' was discussed. The reason for sharing this is that it has opened my eyes into making my life more fruitful in combination with the ''1% rule'' or ''compounding effect''

Sometimes choices that we make are determined by how bad the situation is. Imagine your car has broken down but not enough to have it fixed. Let's say your stereo isn't working anymore and on top of that your seat springs make an annoying sound every time you move. You know that fixing it will cost you the effort of needing to use the bus for 3 days as your car is being repaired, so instead you just suck it up and have it not fixed. Your commute to work will suck every single day. Now imagine that the suck became worse, and that you have to fix your car. Now the situation became bad enough to do something about the problems of your vehicle.
The paradox describes that worse situations can sometimes be better than better situations so that you will get up and solve the problems.

My idea is to combine the knowledge of these two rules together (1% rule as described in Atomic Habits by James Clear). Whenever something sucks, you fix it as part of the 1% rule. I've got a wood-panel wall next to my desk that has been eerie as it wasn't glued properly. Did not fix this problem because it's not affecting me enough. Today is the day that I'm no longer going to accept this and just fix my problems that bug me enough to distract me from my real goals to gain the long term benefit of reducing stress in my life.
In conclusion: if the fix takes shorter than the amount of time something will bug you, fix it. Don't let the region-beta paradox take over your life.
