how to become more selective with information ?

I have this concept I call "harsh funneling" , where you basically need to become more ruthless and brave to be able to say "no" to a lot of information you encounter (even if the information is a 8/10 or a 9/10) , you only absorb the 9.5 or 10/10 information

for example I ask : "will I use this information to immediately solve an important problem ?"

but I want to know your opinion about how do you do that , what criteria do you consider to filter information ? and how do you deal with FOMO in that situation ?
