Ever notice how âfake swearsâ like frick, fudge, freaking, fork, shoot somehow still feel like swearing â even though theyâre not? Like, you can feel the âfuckâ despite not hearing it.
Thatâs because our brains react more to:
- The sound pattern (short, sharp, plosive consonants like f and k).
- The social cue (tone of voice, emphasis).
- The context (we expect a swear there, so even the substitute hits).
So in a way, âfork you!â works because your brain auto-fills the taboo word anyway. Itâs swearing with training wheels. đ˛
