This scam is very hard to avoid, because everything looks normal until you move in. You visit a real apartment, sign real documents and even get apartment keys. Look for signs of a vacation apartment like a key safe . Use reverse image search to see if the apartment is listed as a vacation rental on other websites. Ask the neighbours who really lives there.
